At University of South Carolina's Green Quad, we have a strong committment to the environment and our community around us. Starting with the President himself Harry Pastides, all the way to Undergraduate students who take up activities with gusto, the momentum for the green movement has already begun! The Director of Sustainability - Michael Koman, a former USC student himself, leads many of the sustainability initiatives on campus with help from the college Trust, the faculty and the students. Leading the GPR team at USC is Captains Anjana Sukumar and Myoung Su Ko. The commitment gets deeper with activities being planned every semester - at the LEED-Silver certified Green (West) Quad Learning Center and around campus. Sustainability and support for environmental issues permeate all aspects of campus life at the University of South Carolina, from the dining halls where we serve locally grown produce in biodegradable containers to the classrooms where our students are exposed to environmental topics in a variety of disciplines to the residence halls where our students are encouraged to live in an environmentally aware fashion. “Sustainability is part of the fabric of life here at Carolina and not a compartmentalized issue" We are paving the way for other colleges to follow. We still have plenty of initiatives to take and lots of changes to be made, but the ball is rolling and is gathering momentum, there is no stopping these Gamecocks from going "Green"!!The team is Net Impact, Green Quad, SAGE, Cmmunity Service programs, and other students who want are welcome to join. Stay tuned as the Green Team reaches the pinnacle of the Great Power Race with 73 registered projects!
