Sep 24: 350.org Launches the Great Power Race:

Students in China, India, and the US Compete with Clean Energy Projects

San Francisco, CA – 350.org unveiled a new website to launch the first round of Great Power Race, a campus based clean energy competition for students in China, India and the United States.

“I'll be keeping a close eye on the outcome of the Great Power Race,” said former vice-president, Al Gore. “It’s exactly the kind of competition we need --a friendly contest to create a vision for our collective future, one where we don't cling to the past but instead strike out boldly in a new direction."

Over 800 campuses have already signed up for the competition, with India leading the pack with 385 universities registered, China with 282, and the United States with 149.

“Youth across India are already working on solutions to the climate crisis. The Great Power Race will be an opportunity for us to highlight and build on their efforts,” explained Roselin Dey, an organizer with the Indian Youth Climate Network.

Students in each country are racing to implement clean energy and climate solutions projects on their campuses. The winning teams will be those that implement the most, and most creative, projects earning the most points and being reviewed by a panel of judges, including Vandana Shiva, Wen Bo, and Raj Patel.
